Meet the Oakhurst Equine Veterinary Team - The People Behind Your Horse’s Care
Stephanie - Office Manager
Oakhurst Equine Veterinary Services was founded by Dr. Jack Root and Cookie Root, who have spent decades building both Oakhurst Equine Veterinary Services and Oakhurst Thoroughbreds. Their love of horses and the Thoroughbred industry has been at the heart of Oakhurst from the beginning. What started as a vision for providing excellent equine veterinary care has grown into a practice and farm that continues to evolve while staying true to its roots.
Assistant Rebekah
Keeping Oakhurst Moving
Ben Root brings a lifetime of experience around Thoroughbred racing along with a strong background in project management and business operations.
As our Operations Manager, Ben works behind the scenes to help keep the practice moving forward. His role includes improving systems, helping create opportunities for employee education and development, coordinating projects, and working to make sure our veterinarians and staff have the resources they need to do their jobs well. A busy equine veterinary practice has a lot happening behind the scenes, and Ben helps bring organization and structure to it all.
If We Need It, Andrea Finds It
Andrea plays an important behind-the-scenes role at Oakhurst, making sure our veterinarians and support team have the medications, medical supplies, equipment, and everyday essentials they need. From keeping track of inventory to coordinating orders, her attention to detail helps keep the practice prepared and running smoothly so our team can stay focused on caring for our patients.
Our Equine Veterinarians
At the heart of Oakhurst are our veterinarians—Drs. Jack, Flynn, Tara, Katie, and Grace. Together, they bring a wonderful mix of experience, fresh perspectives, individual interests, and areas of expertise to our practice. Some have spent many years caring for horses, while others are just beginning to build their careers in equine medicine. What they all share is a genuine love of horses, a dedication to their patients, and a commitment to providing thoughtful, high-quality veterinary care.
The Friendly Faces in the Office
When you call Oakhurst or arrive at the clinic, there’s a good chance you’ll be talking with Stephanie, Courtney, or Kim. Our office team helps keep appointments, communication, records, scheduling, and countless other details organized. They are an important link between our clients, veterinarians, assistants, and the rest of the Oakhurst team.
They help make sure that when you need us, we’re there to help.

Our Veterinary Assistants
Riley, Reilly, Rebekah, Alex, and Sarah are an important part of our veterinary team. Our assistants work closely with our veterinarians and help with everything from preparing for appointments and assisting with procedures to patient care, equipment, and making sure our doctors have what they need in the field.
They are often the extra set of hands that help make a busy day go smoothly—and they play an important role in the care our patients receive.
Caring for Our Farm & Property
Oakhurst is more than a veterinary practice. Our Thoroughbred farm and property are a big part of who we are. Agustin, Alex, and Brock help care for our horses, grounds, buildings, equipment, and the many details that go into maintaining our farm.
Our horses and property are precious assets, and we are fortunate to have a team dedicated to taking care of them.
Our Familiar Faces
Some members of the Oakhurst family don't have a traditional full-time role, but they still make a difference. Sophia, Phoebe, and our other volunteers and part-time team members lend a hand when needed and bring their own energy, experience, and special touches to Oakhurst.
We appreciate every person who contributes to our team, whether they're here every day or simply step in when we need an extra hand.
More Than a Veterinary Practice
One of the things that makes Oakhurst special is that it takes a whole team to care for horses well. Our veterinarians may be the people you see most often, but there are many people working behind the scenes to answer the phones, schedule appointments, stock supplies, assist with patients, maintain our farm, manage the business, and keep everything moving.
We are proud of the people who make up the Oakhurst team and grateful for the knowledge, hard work, and love of horses that each person brings to the practice.
We hope you enjoy getting to know the people behind Oakhurst Equine Veterinary Services—and we look forward to introducing you to even more of our team along the way.
